Our strategy to fix the UK digital divide - for good

A vision for a digitally inclusive future

To participate fully in society, people need digital connectivity, access, and skills. But we're in a world where digital transformation is acceleratating while digital exclusion grows deeper. Millions struggle to afford internet access and millions more lack basic digital skills.

In 2022 we launched our new strategy to increase digital inclusion support at scale across the UK, tailored to individual needs within local communities.

We expanded our efforts to help 1 million people benefit from digital and support 5000 community-based Digital Inclusion Hubs.

Initiatives to tackle digital inclusion barriers

Good Things Foundation strategy to fix the digital divide. There's a diagram with one box at the top displaying Good Things' logo, and text that says Delivering our mission to Fix The Digital Divide - for good. There's a plait extending from the bottom of the box and branching off to three boxes underneath. The first box says the National Digital Inclusion Network. The second box says the National Databank. The third box says the National Device Bank. These are the three pillars of Good Things Foundation's digital inclusion services.

Our strategy is centred around our comprehensive offer that addresses the key barriers to digital inclusion:

  • The National Databank provides free mobile data for those struggling to afford connectivity
  • The National Device Bank refurbs donations of used tech from private & public sector organsiation, getting devices into the hands of those who can't access their own
  • The National Digital Inclusion Network is made up of thousands of community-based hubs where people can access our digital inclusion services

This offer is underpinned by our flagship service Learn My Way, a free online learning platform containing hundreds of beginner digital skills topics.

Fixing the digital divide in partnership

It takes many people and organisations to fix the digital divide. Strategic and sustained partnerships are essential to making an impact and achieving our strategy.

From grassroots organisations to local authorities and large enterprises, we proudly partner with the private, public and third sectors. Our partnerships enable us to scale our solutions and reach more digitally excluded people.

Our strategic partners enabling our strategy

Our impact would not have been possible without the support of our strategic partners! We’re incredibly grateful for the multi-year strategic partnerships we’ve established with Virgin Media O2, Vodafone, Nominet and Accenture. They’ve made significant investments to help us achieve our vision of a digitally inclusive society where everyone is happier, healthier and better off.
