Local & regional partnerships to fix the digital divide

Fixing the UK's digital divide needs collaboration at a local and regional level.

One of our most effective interventions comes from partnerships with local and regional organisations. These organisations, from local authorities to NHS trusts, leverage their deep-rooted community relationships to identify and support digitally excluded individuals.

Their tailored personal engagement ensures that those most digitally excluded receive the right support.

Case study: our partnership with Greater Manchester Combined Authority

We support the Greater Manchester Digital Inclusion Agenda and commend the leadership of the Greater Manchester Combined Authority (GMCA) in addressing digital exclusion.

Our collaboration with the Greater Manchester Digital Inclusion Action Network and Taskforce focuses on making digital access inclusive for all, especially underserved groups like young people, disabled individuals, and older adults over 75. Strategic areas include enhancing digital skills, improving access to devices and connectivity, and promoting social responsibility.

We’ve since expanded the number of Digital Inclusion Hubs offering the National Databank to nearly 200 locations, distributing over 30,000 SIMs to connect communities across Greater Manchester. GMCA’s strong framework for digital inclusion has delivered positive outcomes for households and communities, demonstrating their commitment to local needs.

We’re proud to partner with GMCA, setting a powerful example for other elected Mayoral authorities by showcasing leadership and collaboration to drive a digitally inclusive future.

Over 300,000 free data packages have been distributed through nearly 200 Digital Inclusion Hubs in the Greater Manchester Combined Authority.
