Description of table summarising our impact measurement approach

This table details the measurement indicators or questions, and data collection processes we use across different areas of focus relating to digital inclusion. These areas of focus include five categories: demographics, barriers, short term outcomes, longer term outcomes, and broader impact.

Demographics:

  • Age: we ask in what year the participant was born, and we capture this in a follow-up questionnaire.
  • Ethnicity: we ask about ethnic group / background, with 7 response options, and we capture this in a follow-up questionnaire.
  • Location: we ask for the first part of the participant’s postcode, and we capture this in a follow-up questionnaire.

Barriers:

  • We ask what difficulties the participant faced in getting online support before receiving support, and we capture this through interviews / discussions.

Short term outcomes:

  • Equal: we use a proxy measure of receipt of data and / or device through Databank or Device Bank, and use capture this through delivery data.
  • Able: we ask if the participant agrees they feel more confident to do things online, and we capture this in a follow-up questionnaire.
  • Safe: we ask if the participant agrees they feel more able to stay safe online, and we capture this in a follow-up questionnaire.

Longer term outcomes:

  • Happier: we ask if the participant agrees they feel more able to contact family / friends, and we capture this in a follow-up questionnaire.
  • Healthier: we ask if the participant agrees they feel more able to find information about their health or health services, and we capture this in a follow-up questionnaire.
  • Better off: we ask if the participant agrees they feel i) more able to manage their money, shopping or bills, and ii) they have better options for learning, training or employment. We capture this in a follow-up questionnaire.

Broader impact:

  • We ask what changes the participant has experienced since receiving digital inclusion support, and we capture this through interviews / discussions.
